Harassment and Discrimination found on Social Media platforms. 

This topic needs to be looked at more clearly and targeted to the people who are being involved in these actions. In Canada today, there are 1 in 4 people being harassed in any aspect of so, including physical, verbal, social, or emotional.

Sources found that Canadian pop star Justin Bieber removed his instagram due to many hateful comments, also there has been many occasions of people being dreaded to suicide, one being Amanda Todd after years of being tormented online.

Social media platforms like instagram, and facebook do not tend to monitor the comments or users when it comes to harassment, as of now it is only twitter that will delete most comments if they are found by twitter itself.

Who is Being Harassed?

It is found that more frequent users are found to be cyber bullied or harassed online. It also seems to happen to people that use facebook as it is the most used social media platform as about 52 precent use it everyday. Also age — not gender– is the biggest know factor for harassment as it is in teens that experience harassment as it is 44%. Next is gender as the second biggest factor as it is more targeted on women and it is rude remarks and comments about appearance, followed by being stalked or sexually harassed.

The Impact of Harassment:

People have agreed that those comments and remarks are following them in the real world, this is lowering each individuals self confidence and making them feel uncomfortable in the real world. It can also be hard to get back on your feet after you have been physically or sexually harassed and can keep you from doing some of the things you enjoy.

What Should Happen Next? 

There was a survey of what Canadian believe should happen next and they agreed that they want these platforms to monitor harassment and make sure it is not being taken too far.

The problem is that more than half of Canadian’s believe those companies aren’t doing enough with the comments and harassment that is going on within there website.
